Temple football’s historic season has led to many positives this year for not just the program, but for the university as well. Temple University has seen a huge increase in applications and they just set a record for the current freshman class and are on pace to break it again next year. Temple football’s success this year has also brought recruits, who would have probably never thought about Temple as an option before, but this season has shown you can play big-time college football at Temple and you can accomplish your goals here. A couple blocks down from Temple is Saint Joe’s Prep and Temple and Matt Rhule were able to land safety Benny Walls for the 2016 class.
Walls, a senior at Saint Joe’s Prep, chose the Owls over offers from over Rutgers, Syracuse, and Boston College. The South Jersey native is a 6 foot, 178 pound defensive back, who committed to Temple this past Sunday after a visit, which seemed to seal the deal for him. It seems Temple really likes Walls at safety, but Walls said he will play where ever they need him and he looks like a guy who would be perfect for Matt Rhule’s system. Landing Benny Walls is pretty big for Temple because the Owls’ defense will lose a decent amount of starters after this year and two of them are safeties.
Walls joins Amir Taylor, Keyvone Bruton, and Jahsen Wint as other potential safety commits for the 2016 recruiting class. Temple has 18 prospects committed overall so far and that’s only the beginning for them because there is till a lot of work to be done.
