Saints Draft Predictions from @_andrewdoyle_

Last year, I predicted that the Saints would get Barkevious Mingo, Tyrann Mathieu, Terron Armstead, Phillip Thomas, and Tyler Bray. I would have loved to see the Saints get Mathieu as well as Armstead and they were only a couple picks off from potentially landing the former LSU star, but it didn’t happen. I’m going to do the same thing and hopefully more picks will come to fruition.

With the 27th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select: Jason Verett, CB, TCU

It’s no secret that the Saints need more secondary help with the release of Jabari Greer. I feel like the team wants another CB but may be hesitant and may drift towards best available and not for need. With the departure of Greer, the Saints are looking at (right now) having P-Rob, Keenan Lewis, Corey White, and Rod Sweeting back there for corners. Not a good sight to see as far as depth goes if you’re Mickey Loomis.

Backup Pick – Kony Ealy – DE – Missouri

With the 58th Pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select: Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

I have seen mock drafts that have this guy going in the first round but I feel like a lot of teams that needed tackles got them in free agency. I see this guy’s draft stock falling a little bit and going to #58 overall.

Backup pick – Trent Murphy – DE – Stanford

With the 91st pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints Select: AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama.

A big question on my mind lately has been, “Who can and maybe will replace Drew Brees?”. I think McCarron is the answer. An absolute beast at Alabama, this guy only lost a handful of games in his college career and they were all pretty close games. I think he has the potential to be a better Alex Smith type of game manager, and I think he could be not only a steal, but the face of a franchise.

Backup pick – Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State

With the 126th Pick in the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select: Jalen Saunders, WR, Oklahoma

I’ve seen this dude play one game and I immediately wanted the Saints to draft him. The pick may be reaching a little bit for him, but this guy has huge potential to be the big play threat that the Saints have been looking for. The departure of Lance Moore helps if the guy gets drafted because that allows a roster spot and even some playing time to be up for grabs between Joe Morgan, Nick Toon, Saunders, and Meachem.

Backup pick – Bryan Stork – C – Florida State

With the 167th Pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select: Micheal Sam – DE – Missouri

I don’t care about the whole gay thing. I like this dude as a player and that’s what teams are going to be looking for. This dude had a fantastic year in college last year and he deserves a chance to be on an NFL Roster. I feel like Rob Ryan can mold this dude into a formidable defensive player and I believe he could be a steal.

Backup pick – Dri Archer – WR – Kent State

With the 202nd pick in the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select: Chris Boswell, K, Rice

Shayne Graham was just a band-aid. I feel like the Saints should draft another kicker to fill in for Garrett Hartley. I’ve never seen this dude play but he’s the top rated kicker in the draft so why not take a fliyer on him?

Backup pick – Max Bullough – ILB – Michigan State

Some of these picks may seem like complete pipe dreams, and others may seem like head-scratchers. I stand by these picks and I hope more of them will come to fruition than last year’s did.
