The Saints are an injured, crippled, and talent deficient mess. They have one NFL level linebacker, zero corners who should be starting, and a FORMER pro bowl safety who brings no value whatsoever. Add to that a disastrous offensive line, and you get a situation where the team simply cannot afford even a single mistake to have a chance for victory.
The Saints made three crippling errors none of which they could afford. The first was Drew’s pick six which wasn’t really on him as much as it was a great play on the ball by Berry and a fortuitous bounce for the Chiefs who intercepted it and returned it for a TD. The Second was a back breaking fumble by Mark Ingram who failed to secure the ball while running near the goal line (something you cannot do), and due to that the ball was punched out at a time the Saints were trying desperately to make a comeback.
The third and final nail in their coffin was Nick Fairley’s personal foul penalty where he threw a Chiefs running back to the ground at the end of a play in frustration. With how well he has played to date, and considering the mental anguish he endured this week with the passing of his mother I’m giving him a pass on the play. However, there is no question that Fairley’s play cost the Saints their best chance at making a comeback and they were unable to come back from it.
Observations:
- The Saints have sub-nfl level players at too many positions and it dooms them
- Terron Armstead should be put on IR to salvage the rest of his career…continuing to march him out there just risks a career ending injury
- The Saints have a REALLY talented group of receivers and will for years
- Michael Thomas is a flat out stud
- The Saints are so close to having a good defensive line, but they desperately need a pass rusher.
- They are still slow at LB outside of Robertson
- Drew Brees is an incredible player and is still playing GREAT football…its so sad to see him go through this. Especially considering the injuries
