Finally!!! We finally have some real football to discuss, or at least we will in the coming weeks and months. It’s finally time to end speculation, end hope, and dive right into the reality of the 2015 New Orleans Saints…whatever that ends up being. I’m going to follow this post up with my own series of questions and ‘bold’ predictions that I would love it if you guys would respond to (either on here or on twitter at @kirus16). The idea is to make this fun and see just how crazy we can all get before the sad realities of football burst our little bubbles of hope. Of course it is entirely possible that we drastically undersell this team and they end up having a great season. That really is part of the fun of this year; it feels like for the first time in forever we have absolutely no idea what to expect from this team, and at least from an entertainment standpoint that isn’t a bad thing.
Without any further ado let’s get right into and see what people had to say:
@kirus16 Would you rather have one more season with a cancer like Galette in the Lockerroom or have it this way?
— Monedula (@Monedula_) July 29, 2015
No question on this one. I wouldn’t like to have one more minute with that idiot on the team, much less a season. Frankly it isn’t even just the locker room for me (although he is a major problem there). While Junior is a good player and has been productive as a pass rusher I will be frank in saying that we as fans have seriously overhyped his abilities. Junior practically never faced double teams last year and still only managed to get 10 sacks. That feels like a lot to us because of how the rest of the team did, but the guy was barely in the top 20 in the league…and wasn’t a ‘whiteboard’ player for teams at all. I’m not going to diminish his accomplishments and say he is worthless, but nor am I going to pretend that we just lost the second coming of Lawrence Taylor. If you factor in the issues he causes against the run and his inconsistent effort I could make a strong case that he hurt the team just as much as his sacks helped it. And lets be real…dude didn’t get ten sacks. Tampa Bay gift wrapped him a couple so he could get ten as they threw in the towel to get ‘captain crawdad’.
@kirus16 Can you explain too me how cutting him now is worsen then cutting him in februari?
— Monedula (@Monedula_) July 29, 2015
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Another interesting question from the ever curious Monedula. Well played buddy. I’ll give you the short and quick version on this one…it isn’t. If you meant the reverse (I’m going to assume that), then the team made the right move by cutting him now. They needed to get past June 5th to stretch the hit, but there wasn’t a time where he wasn’t leaving. You can’t have another year of that idiot in the locker room and especially when everyone in there knows he is just a rental. It’s simply bad business. Junior needed to go in the worst way and it was entirely due to his own actions. At this point in the process he would have nothing less than a negative impact on the team, and he is the kind of guy who would quit plays just to spite Sean…so GET OUT!!
@kirus16 What’s an acceptable over/under on Kikaha sacks this year? — Neer Shah (@neershah9) July 29, 2015
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
It’s a good question. I think a good over/under for him is 8. My reason for that is anything equal to or greater than that makes him a great pickup and pretty much gives us the same value we lost in Junior, but with a functioning brain. (yup, still salty) If he gets less than 8 it doesn’t necessarily make him a bust, but in my opinion that’s right around the number the team is going to need from him if they want to go places. Just considering the variance in his rushing moves as well as his physical tools I would be fairly surprised here if he can’t get 8 Sacks in 16 games. Think of it like this, we have 3 bad lines in the division so if he gets 4 in 6 games there he only has to get 4 somehow within the other 10 to reach that number. That is more than a fair expectation in my book.
@kirus16 The Saints top sacker will get more than 10 sacks. True or False?
— Alfredo (@NOLA_Fredo) July 29, 2015
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js This kind of feeds off of the previous question, and I am all in on this one. I think Kikaha is going to get 12 personally. I am fully aware that is ambitious, and may be a bit much to expect from a rookie. Still I believe with an improved secondary and linebacking corp as well as some bad offensive lines on the schedule he will get some extra chances to fill the stat sheet. With that in mind I am predicting 12 so the answer to your question is true.
@kirus16 Hill leads the team in TDs. — Gabe (337) (@GabeWhoDat) July 30, 2015
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsNo. That one was simple. I will explain though; it’s not that I don’t think it is possible, it is that I believe that to be the worst case scenario. Hill is a decent piece and I think he will find ways to be effective, but with that said if no one on the team can top him in TD’s that is a BIG problem. He simply isn’t dynamic enough to warrant that many targets. As of right now that could be a doomsday scenario because it means no one steps up to gain Drew’s trust over him. I think that is unlikely so I say no.
@kirus16 Armstead makes the Pro Bowl
— Jan-Hendrik Otto (@whodatgermany) July 30, 2015
I actually agree with this one. Probably the only smart thing Junior said in his little tirade (allegedly of course) on twitter was that Armstead has Pro Bowl talent. He does and in spades. If he improves at the same rate he has been and is accompanied by better interior play at the same time I see the Saints offense doing big things, and that often lends itself to Pro Bowl births. Expect him to have at least a few really noteworthy blocks down the field that make the highlight real this year.
@kirus16 is there anyone out there that u could see the Saints trying to trade for to bolster DL? Or we in wait n see mode for cuts?
— Bull Smith (@bullsmith5050) July 30, 2015
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js Sadly I see no chance here. They really don’t have any assets they could trade, and they also a flush out of cash (thanks Junior). They might pick up so no name interior DL that we can put all of our hopes and dreams on or some wash out (basically the next step down from Williams who at least has a little left in the tank). But, honestly I just don’t see it being financially feasible for them to get anything worth while. They really need some of the young talents they have to step up this year, its that…or DOOM! (That one’s for Ralph..although he is right)
That Wraps up the twitter questions guys. I hope you all had fun and feel free to send anymore you think of to me on Twitter or in the comments section. I’m never too busy to talk Saints. WHO DAT!
