Saints Nation: Cameron Jordan Holdout Getting Ridiculous

Saints Nation: Cameron Jordan Holdout Getting RidiculousMy patience with Cameron Jordan’s agent is growing very thin. The dispute, reportedly, is whether Jordan will get 4 years guaranteed on his contract or 3. The Saints obviously want the latter. The pick ahead of Jordan and the pick behind him (Eagles G Danny Watkins and Seahawks DT James Carpenter) both have 3 years guaranteed. Jordan is one of 6 remaining unsigned 1st round draft selections and he’s the only one after pick #23. Enough is enough, this guy needs to sign today. He had a perfect chance to start this season, especially with Will Smith likely suspended for the first four games of the regular season, and instead of pressuring his agent he’s stuck whining about how he wants to be with the team on twitter. Now the longer he waits the further behind he is with the team’s installs and the less chance he has to make an impact early in the season. He’s not a veteran, he’s a rookie. All rookies need to be there on the first day, period.

The new rookie contracts and new CBA…

were created in part to avoid this very thing: ridiculous rookie contracts and lengthy training camp holdouts. I realize the timeline for this season is a bit different given how deep into the offseason the lockout went, but why is Jordan one of the 6 remaining guys left to sign? He needs to get this done immediately and get on the field ASAP. The wait has gone on entirely too long with him.

Other Saints news:

The most recent signings are Carl Nicks, Zach Strief, Clint Ingram and Cecil Newton. I believe that puts the roster at 91, which means I’m sure a no name has been released and we’ll find out soon enough who that is. Reports are coming out that Anthony Hargrove has gone to the Bears, though that hasn’t been confirmed. David Thomas, Jonathan Goodwin, Heath Evans and Darren Sharper, among others, remain unsigned.
