A player we have yet to watch perform this season after a phenominal breakout rookie season is running back Chris Ivory, who has now spent the first 7 weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). As good as Mark Ingram was yesterday and as promising as he’s been overall this season, Ivory would bring a much needed physicality and power to the Saints’ running game. With Ingram’s heel injury making him less than 100% in the Colts game, that’s all but paved the way for Ivory to now return. Expect the Saints to likely release Sean Canfield and sign Ivory to the active roster with an official announcement by Wednesday.
Ivory may be a worthwhile pickup in fantasy leagues as I believe he’ll likely start and play a lot if Mark Ingram can’t go against the Rams. I’m thinking at least 10 carries if not more, but expect Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles’ workloads to go up as well. The Rams are winless and they rank dead last in the NFL against the run, so it’s the perfect game for Ivory to get his feet wet and I honestly think he’s a pretty decent pickup in fantasy leagues if you’re desperate for back depth (at least until Mark Ingram demonstrates he’s healthy again).
Many of you have been waiting for Ivory’s return for quite a while, and you should finally get your wish this week. His return with Ingram just getting banged up could not be more perfect, as he’s apparently totally healthy and ready to go and the timing for him to actually get reps and contribute is good.
