The New Orleans Saints return home after a three game road trip finishing 2-1 on the the trip. They return to play the Indianapolis Colts who are playing without there mister everything in Peyton Manning. Colts have looked lost this season without Manning but can you blame them? He means so much to that team and he might be the first guy to win NFL MVP not even playing a down. Enough about the hopeless Colts, the Saints should win easily and they will get a nationally televised audience to showcase they are one of the best NFC teams. Here are some things I will be watching for in this game.
1. The return of the running game?
I don’t have the stats of the running game when Olin Kreutz was out with injuries but I would have to think they are better without him. I am not here to bash Olin, just glad he out of the lineup because with him in the lineup I don’t know if Drew Brees would have survived a season and the running game will benefit from him not being here. Look for the running backs to get back on track this week against the Colts.
2. What is up with Drew Brees and the interceptions?
First off I don’t think there is anything wrong with Drew, I just know in the two losses turnovers have not been in the Saints favor. Last week Drew threw three interceptions but they were still very much in the game at the end, just think if those interceptions didn’t happen. I think the interceptions can all be traced back to the Saints offensive line, they allow the pressure and then Drew has throw the ball not really having his feet set, the ball sails high going off the hands of the receiver into the hands of the secondary. This offensive line has to play better going forward into the season.
3. With Coach Payton calling plays from upstairs will it affect the offense?
Last week it seemed the Saints could have use Coach Payton making decisions in the fourth quarter as both Coach Carmichael and Coach Vitt were looking for answers as the game wore on. I think it will take some adjusting for the Saints getting used to Coach Payton calling plays from upstairs. It helps the process as the Saints play the Colts and Rams in the next couple games .
4. Will this game be over at halftime?
I hope this game is a game worth watching. The experts expect the Saints to have their way with the Colts and rightfully so, the Colts haven’t won a game this year. It has the making of a blowout but the Colts have been in every game since their week one blowout loss against the Texans. It was also the last good team they played until the Saints.
5. The first game in the Superdome as the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
I always wondered if the Saints would ever get naming rights for the Superdome. They went international in getting Mercedes Benz with an idea coming from the owner’s wife. I like the name added to the Superdome but I will still just call it the Superdome as most Saints fans will do the same.
