Saints Nation: Heath Evans Announces Retirement

Heath Evans, via his twitter pages, has communicated to the fans and media that he’s officially called it quits with his playing career in the NFL. He had the following to say:

“Fans/Friends: I have decided 2 retire after 10 great yrs n the NFL! I have accepted a multi-yr contract w/  & I’m n the process of moving my family to L.A. to join my new team! Words cannot express my gratitude for the love that has been shown to my family & I over”.

The former fullback played for the Saints for 2 seasons in 2009 and 2010 and had a profound affect on the New Orleans community during his short time there. He organized two terrific softball games featuring Saints players at Zephyr stadium during his time there to benefit his foundation, which is focused on counceling sexually abused children. That foundation’s goodwill is now embedded in New Orleans, enhancing the well being of our own every day. On the field, Evans was a starter for 2 years with the Saints and he of course has a Super Bowl ring to show for it. Personally I’ll miss Heath greatly as he was probably the player that gave me the most time of day as a blogger. He’s most known for being outspoken and wearing his heart on a sleeve. Thanks for the memories #44 and good luck to you in your new career. I look forward to seeing you on the NFL Network!
