Tackle Coy Beilby signed with the Saints yesterday, and I was able to get a phone interview with him this morning on his way to New Orleans. Many thanks to the young tackle for hooking me up.

Good luck to Coy in his NFL adventure and in his attempt to make the Saints’ roster. At 6’7″, 310+ lbs, he certainly won’t be dwarfed by any of his teammates. Thanks to him for the time!
(process of draft, lockout and free agency as a rookie)
Honestly it was a little nerve wracking. We had quite a few teams call the first day of the draft and obviously before that, watching film, coming to my school, coming to watch games, talking to me. After the first day of the draft we got put back on and I didn’t hear a word till Tuesday. We were just kind of hanging out, working out, hoping you know, training hard, and getting ready for anything at a moment’s notice.
(joining Saints)
Well I always really liked the Saints and a scout came to my games a few times and talked to me, and I really liked him. I just jumped all over the opportunity and decided to give it a shot.
(coming from small school like Marian College)
Oh it was definitely a lot harder. Hands down. It’s probably 10 times harder to get noticed at a small school like I’m at because generally scouts don’t follow a team and don’t want to come to our schools very often. I guess I just happened to get lucky and some local scout saw me and all of a sudden I had interest. The miracle that someone saw me I guess.
(on what he knows about the Saints)
I mean I’ve looked into them a decent amount. I’m definitely a fan of Drew Brees. I’m jumping at the opportunity to block for him, it’s a dream come true. I’m looking forward to learning everything I can and trying to make my game better.
(his best assets as a player)
I’m definitely a hard worker, that’s what I have going on right now, I’ll run myself to exhaustion if I have to, pushing myself to the limit. I think I can move pretty well, decent footwork, my technique is pretty (good). I’ve worked hard to get to this point and all the hard work is finally paying off.
(if he prefers left tackle or right tackle)
I can play either. I can play guard, tackle, either side. I prefer the left side because I’ve played there the last 3 years but I can play right side also. I don’t really have a preference I will play wherever I’m needed.
(where he is)
Yep! Plane boards in 15 minutes, on my way to New Orleans!
(closing statement for fans)
Happy to have a shot, I’m definitely going to give 100% and see what I can do!
