Saints Nation: My Final Stab at the 53 Man Roster

I’m just going to pretend what we witnessed last night never happened. I’ve had a chance to watch all these players throughout camp and here’s my final stab at the 53 man roster. I’m sure some of these are incorrect, and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Here is my final prediction for the 53 man Saints’ roster for opening day:

QB (2) Drew Brees, Chase Daniel
HB (4) Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, Joique Bell
FB (1) Korey Hall
TE (3) Jimmy Graham, David Thomas, Tory Humphrey
WR (6) Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, Adrian Arrington, Courtney Roby
C (2) Olin Kreutz, Matt Tennant
G (2) Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks
T (4) Jermon Bushrod, Zach Strief, Charles Brown, Jordan Black

E (4) Will Smith, Turk McBride, Cameron Jordan, Junior Galette
DT (4) Sedrick Ellis, Shaun Rogers, Aubrayo Franklin, Mitch King

K (1) Garrett Hartley – assuming his injury is fine. If not, they’ll pick up something else and I pray they don’t stick with Kasay.

4 things to consider here:

1. I think the Saints will pick up a tight end off waivers and cut Tory Humphrey. So while you see Humphrey on this list, I believe they’ll bring in a new tight end to be #3, I just don’t know who.

2. Will Smith could still be suspended due to the StarCaps case. If he is, that’ll be to Jeff Charleston’s benefit. Don’t rule out the Saints getting a defensive end off the waiver wire too and maybe letting go of Trumaine McBride or Pierson Prioleau.

3. I’ve heard the worst regarding Hartley’s injury, but he’s not officially on IR yet so I’m holding out hope. Either way, if he goes to IR I don’t expect Kasay to be the guy after that disaster. Everyone wants Josh Jasper, wouldn’t that be nice.
 
4. Chris Ivory will start on the PUP list.
