Saints Nation: PJ Hill Placed on Injured Reserve, Saints Sign DeShawn Wynn to Replace Him

WynnWhen P.J. Hill went down yesterday in the game against the Texans, it looked like a shoulder separation. I told myself “eh, he’ll be fine and back by the 4th preseason game at worst”. Boy was I wrong. P.J. Hill was placed on injured reserve today and is now officially out for the entire 2010 season. Hill is the second Saints’ running back to get shelved for the entire year, after Lynell Hamilton tore his ACL. Chris Ivory is all of a sudden tearing up the depth chart. At the start of training camp he was the #5 back with seemingly no chance of making the team. Now, he’s firmly entrenched as the Saints #3.

To replace Hill on the roster, the Saints have brought in DeShawn Wynn (pictured), formerly with the Green Bay Packers. Wynn has scored 5 rushing touchdowns in three seasons with the Packers, and has averaged an impressive 5.2 yards per carry, but he has not been able to stay healthy. At this point you have to think Ivory will be the #3 back, with Wynn and Ladell Betts battling for the #4 spot. The Saints kept four backs last year, but may stick with just three if they don’t like what they see from the two veterans. Either way, my guess is Wynn will get a long hard look on Friday night against the Chargers. Wynn was a 7th round pick by the Packers 3 years ago out of Florida.
