I am proud of Reggie Bush. At his youth football camp at Tulane, Reggie was faced with local media over the weekend for the first time since his rants on twitter. I still don’t know if he’ll stay or if he’ll go, but at least he took the high road. “I would love to retire here if possible,” he said. “I would love to play for the Saints for however long my career, God-willing, allows me to play. First and foremost, I want to be a Saint.”
Bush then went on to say: “Obviously sometimes you write things and you say things and it may come off the wrong way. It may be taken the wrong way. You may not even mean it that way or you may regret it. At the end of the day, I probably shouldn’t have tweeted that and I probably shouldn’t have said that and I’m sure a lot of people took it the wrong way and I apologize to the city of New Orleans if they have.”

So there you go. I for one and willing to forgive Bush for his immature behavior and hey, if he regrets his comments and asks for forgiveness, I think as Saints fans that’s the least we can give him based on what he’s done in our community and what he’s accomplished as a player. I did compile a scathing write up after the comments he made on twitter, but I have always liked Reggie Bush and I think it takes a big man to behave the way he did to the media this weekend. He easily could have thrown gasoline on the fire and Benson boogeyed his way out of New Orleans. Instead, he was remorseful, respectful, humble and committed. Too many times Bush oscillated between mature and immature, though, and I still think deleting his twitter account is in his best interest based on his track record that proves he has a poor filter. Still, Bush went out of his way to attempt to mend fences today and I believe he’s still appreciated enough that fans and media will forgive him quickly. He deserves that, because Reggie has always been honest if nothing else. I think he showed some character today, and that’s exactly what has made the New Orleans Saints so productive as people and players – character. I’m hard on Reggie Bush when it’s warranted, but today his behavior was exemplary in my book.
