It's very sad that I've followed the Saints long enough that a lot of my long time heroes are starting to pass away. Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, Sam Mills, Frank Warren, Dave Waymer and Norman Hand are just a few that have left us way too young. Today former Saint running back Chuck Muncie died at the age of 60 from a heart attack. May he rest in peace, and God bless his family.
Muncie played four solid seasons for the Saints and was the first ever back in team history to run for 1,000 in 1979. That year he ran for 1198 yards at a 5.0 yards per carry clip and scored 11 touchdowns, which was one of the more remarkable years by a Saints' back in team history. He was then traded to the San Diego Chargers where he finished out his career as a productive player. The Saints traded him when his value was high, no one ever accused the organization in the 70s/80s of being smart.
