The Saints made an adjustment to their 53 man roster today saying goodbye to safety Jonathon Amaya, a guy they acquired inthe Reggie Bush trade, in favor of another R. Bush. That’s right, the Saints claimed safety Rafael Bush off waivers from theBroncos and added him to the active roster to replace Amaya. Bush is a strong safety that has special teams promise, so it’sprobably a lateral move from Amaya, although Amaya (who was supposed to be a special teams stud) has been poor defensivelyand a bit disappointing during his year in New Orleans. What I like most about this pick up is that Bush was on the AtlantaFalcons’ practice squad in 2010 and 2011 and can give the Saints some intel. Bush was signed by the Broncos late last seasonwhile still on the Falcons’ practice squad to play on special teams, but he didn’t make final cuts this time.
In addition to adding Bush to the active roster, the news has leaked that the Saints have signed…
Andy Tanner, Jerico Nelson and Ricky Henry (guard from Bears) to their practice squad. There are still five open spots on that squad yet to be announced and they are expected to be official sometime tomorrow. Henry is a mammoth interior guard from Nebraska who started one game for the Bears last year. Henry spent almost all of 2011 on the Bears’ practice squad as an undrafted rookie.
