We already knew undrafted rookie S Jerico Nelson out of Arkansas, WR Andy Tanner, and G Ricky Henry from the Bears were three names destined for the Saints practice squad. Today the Saints shared the other five names with us to round out their eight man practice squad. They are DE Braylon Broughton (undrafted rookie out of TCU that was a final cut for Saints), LB Ezra Butler (1 year vet, also a final cut by Saints), TE Michael Higgins (1 year vet, Saints), CB Nick Hixson (undrafted rookie, Saints), and rookie G Harland Gunn. Gunn, out of Miami U., is the only player we as fans should have no familiarity with to this point. He was an undrafted rookie by the Dallas Cowboys and made it to their final cut. The Saints obviously made sure to have two interior lineman on their practice squad considering how thin they are on the active roster (Eric Olsen is the only backup).
Of this list I’m most happy to see Michael Higgins on it as he’s a promising tight end that I truly believe will eventually make this team. QB Sean Canfield didn’t make it, but I have zero doubts he will flip on and off the roster much like he did last season.
