Saints Nation: Saints Blow Out Colts 62-7

That’s not a typo. The final score was 62-7 Saints. That pretty much tells you as much as you need to know. It was about as close to a perfect game as I’ve seen the Saints play. Offensively, they could not be stopped. Defensively, they got stops at will. Honestly, I felt bad for the Colts. The beatdown was that bad. It was an embarrassment of epic porportions, and it made way for the singlemost points scored in a game by the Saints in franchise history. The Saints regain 1st place in the NFC South with the win and Tampa’s loss earlier in the day. So much for Olin Kreutz’ departure affecting things, or Sean Payton calling plays from the booth being a problem. Here are my bullets on the game:

•  Speaking of Olin Kreutz, his replacement, Brian de la Puente, played an outstanding game. It sounds like Kreutz was headed to the bench even if he stuck around. Still, I think it’s clear at this point who the Saints’ best option at center is. Fantastic game from him.
• Mark Ingram looked fantastic playing his best game of the year, and of course he hurt his heel late in the 4th quarter during the blowout. It looks like Chris Ivory’s roster spot should open up for next week.
• Darren Sproles is amazing. He’s just been oustanding all season long. I am so impressed with him every time he touches the ball. What a steal of a pickup.
• Jimmy Graham is pretty amazing too. Oh and so is Marques Colston.
• Brees had more touchdowns (5) than incompletions (4). Not a typo. 
• Not to downplay a great showing by our boys, but the Colts are horrible. Curtis Painter looks like a painter more than a football player. He played horrible. 0-16 isn’t out of the question for this team if Peyton Manning doesn’t make it back.
• The offensive line was outstanding all night. The blocking was terrific.
• I believe Thomas Morstead had 10 kickoffs and 9 went for touchbacks. Someone correct me if I’m wrong there. 9 touchbacks in NFL game has to be close to an NFL record, no? Thanks to Marjin for pointing that out.
• I’m continually impressed with the job John Kasay is doing. Hartley is not being missed at all.
• The Saints gave up 97 yards passing. Not a typo.

You guys get the idea… it was the biggest beatdown in franchise history. The Saints stay a perfect 3-0 at home on the season and they’ll travel to St. Louis next week to face the winless Rams who may be without Sam Bradford. 6-2 is looking pretty good. Stay tuned for the player grades.
