Saints Nation: Saints Pick Up DT Isaako Aaitui

asgforwards

The Saints landed another big body in Isaako Aaitui, who is 6'4" and 315lbs, to create depth behind Brodrick Bunkley and John Jenkins at nose tackle. He has signed a 2 year contract with the Saints for what I can only assume is the minimum. Aaitui has never played in a regular season NFL game after signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie free agent out of UNLV.

He was cut during final cuts with the Dolphins and the Dolphins tried to sign him to their practice squad but the Jets snatched him up off waivers. Unfortunately for Aaitui, he tore his MCL and ACL during his time with the Jets and has been recovering from that massive injury ever since. His health seems to be the main thing standing in the way of him possibly landing a roster spot, then. We'll see how he can rebound, but it's been a couple years so he obviously passed a physical if the Saints signed him. I'll be surprised if he makes the team, but you never know. If nothing else he's another nose to add competition, especially given the news Akiem Hicks will be playing defensive end. Currently the Saints' roster lists 91 players, so they will need to cut one to get under the league mandated maximum of 90.
