Saints Nation: Saints Sign Veterans Fabian Washington and Turk McBride

Saints Nation: Saints Sign Veterans Fabian Washington and Turk McBrideThe Saints signed two more players yesterday, but neither was their own free agents. The Saints agreed to terms with veteran CB Fabian Washington, who will presumably replace Randall Gay in his role on the team, as well as defensive end Turk McBride.

With Tracy Porter currently recovering from offseason knee surgery, something that should keep him out until close to the regular season opener if not further, the Saints clearly felt they needed veteran depth at cornerback. This is Washington’s 7th season in the NFL after spending the first 3 with the Raiders and the follow 3 with the Ravens. He’s totalled 6 interceptions in his career and he’s been a starter for both teams. Washington was benched last year after beginning the year as a starter due to poor play. Still, as a reserve cornerback he seems capable.

Turk McBride is a…

defensive end who’s been in the NFL for 4 seasons. His best season was last year as a reserve for the Lions where he managed to post a career high 5 sacks. This could be bad news for free agent Jeff Charleston, who may not return to the Saints if they’ve decided to upgrade their depth at DE with McBride.

The Saints’ roster now stands at 87, not counting Cameron Jordan who is still an unsigned rookie, nor Carl Nicks who is a restricted free agent. The main free agents of their own still looking for a team are C Jonathan Goodwin, FS Darren Sharper, FB Heath Evans, TE David Thomas, DT Anthony Hargrove, DE Jeff Charleston, LB Marvin Mitchell, T Zach Strief, and DE Jimmy Wilkerson. Still no news on those guys.
