Today the Saints must trim their roster down to 80 players to meet the NFL mandated roster maximum, so we’ll see 10 players get released from the team. Here’s my predictions on who those 10 guys will be. Let’s see how accurate my guesses turn out. I’m actually going to release 11 players because I believe the Saints will sign a kicker at some point this week while Garrett Hartley heals up.
1. C Ryan Taylor – the Saints have 4 centers on the roster and we already know which 2 are making it. I’m guessing Taylor goes before Cecil Newton but it could be the other way around.
2. CB Quincy Butler – the Saints are loaded at cornerback and this guy never plays. Kiss him goodbye.
3. WR Andy Tanner – He has been miserable in preseason.
4. DT Dexter Larimore – You know your chances of making the team are bad when you’re barely even trusted on the field in preseason.
5. FB Kolby Hurt – the focus at fullback is fully on the Jed Collins vs. Korey Hall battle.
6. LB Ezra Butler – He’s been banged up and hasn’t played much, and the Saints are deep at linebacker.
7. LB Dwight Roberson – Also caught in a numbers game and is way too low on the depth chart.
8. T Dan Gay – He’ll have the same fate as his brother Randall. Just kidding, they’re not related.
9. WR Jarred Fayson – Wasn’t going to make the team anyway, but his inability to stay healthy hasn’t helped.
10. CB Fabian Washington – the Saints gave this veteran a chance to compete and he just can’t suit up.
11. LS Kyle Nelson – Drescher is the guy.
