For those of you freaking out when the news broke that Sean Payton was moving to Dallas (present company included), you can rest assured in that he’s gone public with his desire to eventually get a new contract with the Saints to remain the head coach of the team. For now he’s playing it cool, but his contract does expire after the 2012 season and he’s confirmed he’s had talks with Mickey Loomis to get initial negotiations slated for the organization’s to-do list.
Sean Payton, as reported by KFFL, said the following:
“It’s on the list and it’s something that when the time comes, I think I’d have a strong interest in going through that.”
This is good news as far as I’m concerned. Let’s face it, Sean Payton gets most anything he wants in New Orleans. If he wants a contract extension, he’ll get it, and he’ll remain the head coach of the team for probably as long as he cares to. As fans, none of us should want him going anywhere.
