One of Brett Favre’s favorite targets, Sidney Rice, just underwent hip surgery and will be out for an extended period of time during the regular season. He is 100% ruled out of the Saints game on September 9th, which makes the Saints’ lives a little easier. Rice emerged as a superstar receiver last year in his first season with Favre as the trigger man, catching 83 passes for 1,312 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Rice also had a production postseason, posting 6 catches for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys. While the Saints held him to just 4 catches for 43 yards in the NFC Championship, he did score a touchdown in that game as well. Needless to say this is a huge blow to the Vikings’ offense. While Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin are productive receivers on the team as well, remember that Harvin has been dealing with migraine headaches all offseason and recently went to the ER ambulance style from passing out at practice. The Vikings are hoping the recent signing of Javon Walker will help them absorb the loss of Rice, but Walker is competely washed up in my opinion. You never root for a player to be injured, and we still have to stop Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson, among others, but this will have an impact on the September 9th showdown.
