After being implored to share any evidence the NFL contained against the Saints players for months, only few quick to judge buffoons took this garbage “leaked” Yahoo story excuse for “evidence” as the proverbial nail in the Saints’ coffin. The article, should you choose not to read it, claims that a ledger exists that detailed the Saints’ payment program for “cart offs” and “whacks” and the NFL is in position of such ledger. Again, it won’t be shared to the public… you can’t view it… you just have to take their word for it. Um, no thanks on that one. Enough spinning and manufactured “truths” have soiled the NFL’s credibility in this longwinded saga, and nothing short of cold hard evidence will be enough to condemn the Saints’ players at this point in the public eye. And I’m not talking about claims of possession of cold hard evidence… that’s the same song that’s been playing since day one. I’m talking about real evidence, shared with the public, akin to the Gregg Williams audio tape, that incriminates Saints players.
The “evidence” surrounding that article first claimed that 3 separate $1,000 cash handouts were made in the 2009 Saints-Bills game. Problem is, of the 4 Bills players that left that game, 3 were defensive. So then they turn to the 2009 Panthers game and say “oh no sorry, we made a mistake, the Panthers game… yeah… that’s DEFINITELY the one the Saints were guilty of intentionally hurting people and we have the paper trail as evidence which you’re not allowed to look at” (paraphrasing). Problem is, that one doesn’t add up either. The Angry Who Dat does a fantastic job breaking down the 2009 Panthers game, complete with plays in question that could be even marginally deemed as “evidence”. Still doesn’t add up.
This has gotten so ridiculous, even Mike Florio, one of the most anti-Saints national media pundits out there, is starting to question the NFL and defend the players. And he’s right, the league needs to release what they have and stop asking us to trust them. Saints fans never trusted them, and the trust of everyone else faded as more fabricated truths continue to spin from the NFL’s web. Two quotes in particular that I agree with:
1. “The end result is an even murkier mess that can never be clarified until raw evidence is released.”
2. “there’s an argument to be made that the leaked characterization of the ledger actually undermines the league’s claims. Either way, no one should come to any conclusions until sufficient raw evidence that there actually was a bounty system is publicly disclosed.”
The more the NFL attempts to publicly incriminate the Saints players, the less they seem guilty, and the worse it makes Roger Goodell look. What no one understands is what or who exactly they are trying to protect? The other theory is they just don’t really have anything, and they’ve been called out on it, so now they are backed into a corner. Once again, let’s be clear about this: NO ONE TRUSTS YOU ANYMORE. That goes for the “legitimate media” as well as the NFL and Roger Goodell. Their possession of evidence is more in question than ever, and the only way to regain any belief from the public at this point is to share what they have. That still hasn’t been done, and this bogus attempt of the “leaked ledger” is digging a deeper hole for them.
