This news may not be much comfort initially to those that experience the disappointment of being left off the final 53 man roster, but two players currently on the Saints’ 90 man roster will remain with the team this year when otherwise they might not have. Granted that is a little presumptive because the Saints could always use their last two spots of the practice squad on players from another team, but the point is more jobs have been created for players:
By next week, NFL is expected to increase size of practice squads to 10 players from 8, per source. So 64 more jobs.

This is good news for a lot of undrafted rookies and late round draft choices. Specifically for the Saints, it offers a little more security to some players. Some players that could potentially be waived at the time of the 53 man roster cut downs but would be good candidates for the practice squad are the following:
QB Logan Kilgore
G Senio Kelemete
WR Seantavius Jones
WR Brandon Coleman
S Pierre Warren
DE Rufus Johnson
FB Austin Johnson
G Marcel Jones
RB Derrick Strozier
T Tavon Rooks
That’s not to say the guys listed above won’t make the roster, but they face long odds. Of this list I’d say Warren has the best shot. But I think all of these guys have a very strong chance at the practice squad. This also depends on the health of Erik Lorig, though, because Johnson could easily be the opening day fullback if that injury keeps Lorig out of action.
