Saturday night will mark the start of the 2011-2012 NFC Playoffs as Quarterback, Matthew Stafford, leads the Detroit Lions to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana to take on Drew Brees and the Saints in a battle of two high powered offenses. Brees, coming off of a record breaking season setting the single season passing yards record and the record for most games with 300+ yards, holds the offensive advantage over the Lions in total yards per game, passing yards per game, and rushing yards per game. The Saints, coming off a disappointing first round loss to the Seattle Seahawks last year, look to avoid similar disappointment this year.
The Detroit Lions will appear in what is their first playoff appearance in 13 years. This past season, the Lions saw their best season start since 1956 winning their first 5 games of the regular season. Look for Matthew Stafford, who had a successful 41 touchdowns in the regular season, and the league’s most dangerous wide receiver, Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, to make an attempt at taking full advantage of the Saints defensive secondary in what will indeed be a high flying match-up.
Will the Saints be able to advance in pursuit of becoming Superbowl champions twice in three years or will the Lions bring a repeat of disappointment to the Saints? Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00pm.
