FIBA games in San Antonio?

The San Antonio Independent School District is looking to renovate the Alamo Convocation Center. FIBA games in San Antonio? Why?

By putting maximum effort into the renovations, the city will be able to attract many new sporting events. The San Antonio Express News has reported the possibility of the Big 12, W.A.C., and even FIBA games being held in San Antonio if the Center is able to succeed in future improvements.

A “spruced-up” Alamo Convocation Center could host the FIBA Under 19 World Basketball Championship, officials said.

The Spurs are also considering a partnership with the district that would pave the way for a United Soccer Leagues professional team to play at the stadium.

The move would not only help the city in gaining more national attention, but it would also help in providing revenue for the School District. The district is currently in a financial bind after having to cut costs by letting administrators go. A move like this would really help the district in a few years to recover from the financial situation they’re in right now.

Also, having FIBA U-19 World Championship would be the cherry on top. It be great to see the next wave of future international NBA talent right in San Antonio. Plus more basketball is always in order in San Antonio.
