The Oregon Ducks have been in the national spotlight for the past six seasons. They’ve earned plenty of praise since the Chip Kelly era began in 2009, but with that admiration has come an ample supply of animosity from critics.
Saturday night, the Utah Utes helped fuel the fire for detractors by taking down the Ducks at Autzen Stadium in historic fashion. The internet was quick to pass on praising the Utes in favor of mocking Oregon, and one of the planet’s most recognizable actors (who also happened to be commenting quite a bit on college football at the time) followed suit.
So I’m guessing Oregon’s ranking by reputation is coming to an end? # rude awakening

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsSamuel L. Jackson, the man who has spent his professional career personifying the likes of Mace Windu, Jules Winnfield and plenty more, took to Twitter and made it clear how he felt about the team from Eugene, Ore.
The worst part about it? The guy wasn’t wrong. Marcus Mariota covered up many of the Ducks’ flaws over the past few seasons, and unless you believed Vernon Adams Jr. was going to do the same after just two weeks on campus, it was clear that this crew was overrated as the No. 6 team entering 2015.
As sad as it was for Oregon fans to accept the words of Shaft Saturday night, there was one reason to avoid shedding tears and drinking themselves into oblivion as the Ducks’ championship-caliber era came to a crashing conclusion.
The man behind the keyboard clearly doesn’t understand how to use a hashtag.
Samuel L. Jackson may be right, but he also doesn’t know how to use hashtags. So I can still smile. https://t.co/dAf7YQcAsr — Bryant Knox (@BryantKnox) September 27, 2015

One Oregon Sports News writer (let’s call him “Yours Truly”) couldn’t help but share with the world (or at least his paltry Twitter following) that Mr. L. Jackson himself, 66, couldn’t construct a proper hashtag. It wasn’t with hate in his heart or resentment toward reality; it was the fact that a cringe-worthy contest with no reason to grin left him with a smirk because of the actor’s accurate-yet-unintentionally-comedic commentary.
Jackson ultimately saw the Tweet and responded in the most Samuel L. Jackson way possible.
True @BryantKnox that’s pretty much why I seldom use these ## MUTHAFUKKAZ!!

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsPresumably from his couch in Los Angeles, Jackson publically admitted that the concept of a proper hashtag is beyond him. He also proved that he doesn’t care one bit and that he remains one of the biggest badasses in the film industry, if not on the entire freakin’ planet.
He also verified one other notion: It doesn’t take an aggressive troll to get the man’s attention. A light jab paired with recognition of his analysis did the trick, and it’s the reason this particular OSN writer ended up with more than 350 Twitter notifications on his phone the next morning.
The Oregon program got in on the action as well, as the team and its beloved mascot responded in the most “Duck” way possible.

The difference between Oregon’s response and this particular OSN writer’s response? No reply from Jackson.
The Ducks will move on from Saturday’s loss and play better football. They’ll prove that they’re worthy of consideration when the Pac-12 North title is on the line.
But as for now, it’s Jackson who looks to be correct. And it’s this OSN writer who found a way to smile.
