A few links to give you this Saturday. Let’s start with the regular Saturday morning media columns.
First in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Dan Caesar talks about some changes in the Gateway City’s sports radio scene.
Barry Horn in the Dallas Morning News says former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin is talking Fox Sports Radio about doing a show with that network.
In the San Antonio Express-News, Jerry Garcia gives you some tips to watch for during the NFL exhibition season.
Ashley Fox of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes about former Eagle wide receiver Ike Reese moving to the TV booth to analyze preseason games.
Let’s give you a couple of links to the blogosphere.
From The Big Lead blog, Bob Costas and the New York Times’ William Rhoden square off on Barry Bonds.
Paulsen in the Sports Media Watch blog looks at last year’s NFL preseason TV ratings numbers on the national outlets. He does not take the local telecasts into account. Exhibition football does do well nationally which is why the networks like broadcasting the games especially in primetime. A quick aside, nice to see CBS trot out Gus Johnson and Solomon Wilcotts for last night’s Buffalo-New Orleans tilt.
TV Week’s Deputy Editor Chris Purcell talks to NBC’s Sunday Night Football producer Fred Gaudelli and play-by-play announcer Al Michaels about the upcoming season and their preparations for the games.
In his New York Times soccer blog, “Goal”, Jeffrey Marcus looks at ESPN’s obession with David Beckham. And Beck’s brief 18 minute appearance at the end of the Galaxy-DC United game on Thursday drew record ratings for ESPN.
If you have the Apple iPhone, you can get ESPN’s PodCenter as of Monday. Just what I always wanted, more ESPN.
Those are your links for now. I’ll be back tomorrow with some Sunday links and Videos of the Week.
