Starting off with the New York Times Play magazine, Deadspin editor Will Leitch has an article on ESPN’s College Gameday which will be in Blacksburg, Virginia today on the campus of Virginia Tech. Usually, College Gameday shows a lot of screaming fans, but this will be the first football game since the tragic shootings and the mood will be different than what the Gameday crew is used to. Mark Berman of the Roanoke (VA) Times writes that Gameday is in Blacksburg for the right reasons.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch media writer Dan Caesar criticizes NBC affiliate KSDK for not finding an alternate outlet for the Deutsche Bank Championship. KSDK will show the Cards-Reds game on Sunday then air the Jerry Lewis Telethon on Monday.
Caesar mentioned the following item in his story, but here’s an expanded edition from the St. Louis Business Journal regarding FSN Midwest and KPLR-TV combining to show 65 of the Blues games this season.
Jerry Garcia of the San Antonio Express-News talks with native Lowell Galindo who replaces Antichrist Mike Hall on ESPNU.
The Los Angeles Daily News’ Tom Hoffarth talks with NBC’s Pat Haden about Notre Dame starting QB and LA native Jimmy Clausen. And Hoffarth has more media notes in his Farther Off the Wall blog.
Jim Carlisle of the Ventura County Star writes about ESPN’s lead play-by-play man for NASCAR, Dr. Jerry Punch and the fact that he’s a real doctor. Carlisle also has a blog of his own.

Fox Cable is trying to make peace with Mediacom over the Iowa State-Kent State game which was not carried Thursday night.
Michael Zuidema of the Grands Rapids (MI) Press writes that while the Big Ten Network is having problems with Comcast, Notre Dame is not. Scott Allyn of the Morning Journal (OH) writes Ohio State fans are angry they’re missing out on today’s opener with Youngstown State.
Paul Gough of the Hollywood Reporter writes that ESPN’s new newsmagazine has a new name. Here’s the press release right from ESPN.
And ESPN has announced its announcing team for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next month in China.
