Hello Followers. Hope you had a great week.
As noted here on Thurdsay, the plan was for the Khan to grace these pages yesterday. Unforunately, that little thing known as work got in the way once again.
So, if you want to check out a few (and I mean a few) Saturday thoughts, then click on the old JumpaVegas.
Recruiting:
Last night, Cougfan reported that our Cougs finally met our Destiny, in the form of Destiny Vaeao.
Destiny is a 6 foot 3 255 pound DE from American Samoa. Given that we’re moving to a 3-4, Destiny figures to represent the type of body that this team is going to need going forward at the end spot. Remember, our top three D-Linemen are going to graduate next spring, including Travis Long. So, Destiny represents a real important get for the future.
Also last night, Robert Lewis committed again to the Cougs, meaning that we have now landed RB/WR combo #13 for this class. Personally, I am thrilled given that depth is an absolute necessity for Mike Leach’s Tempo. Plus, when you factor in the age of our WRs as a whole, you can see that this group is going to be around together for a long time. And that continuity can mean only one thing: SUCCESS.
So, as we move toward signing day in a few short days, here are the folks I am looking to sign.
Raymond Ford, CB. We all know that our secondary was, well, less than stellar last year. While I am hopeful that Washington’s injury was the reason for his poor play, adding depth to our secondary is really, really important, since D. Horton currently stands as our one established corner.
Ford would be a great add to this class. He’s my #2 priority, next to…..
Chris Brown, DT. The addition of Brown to this class would make me do back flips. Currently, we’re in a fight with Utah for his services. One would think that we could win this battle with the Utes since, if he comes, Brown figures to step in as our starting DT from day one. I have been looking at Cougfan and Twitter 75,000 times a day just to check his status.
Kenny Lawler, WR. This past week, Lawler has been doing his best to make sure that he winds up being hated by whatever school he chooses to reject. But, if he chooses the Cougs, then we will be nearly set at WR for the next few years–which is a good thing because we look on target to be able to bring in about 4 recruits next year (what is our signing total at right now, 50?)
Basketball:
I told you the other day that Sean Miller and Arizona were going to kick our backsides. And they did. And oustide of Aden’s injury, I hope that ou all didn’t bat an eyelash about that loss. Because frankly, IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!
What does matter, however, is how the team performs today against a really, really, REALLY bad Arizona State team.
Simply put, with a win today, the Cougs secure a 4-5 first half (sound similar to you? It should). And while the quality of the conference suggests that we should have done better, the reality is that our group of fellas just aren’t very good. But, beat ASU today on the road and this group would be well posisitioned to finish the seaon in the middle of the Pac-12–a position I think is necessary to advance in the Pac-12 tournament.
Okay, that’s it for today. Longball will be back Monday as we head straight into signing week…
Go Cougs.
