It was announced today that Weslye Saunders has been dismissed from the South Carolina football team. We had a feeling that this was coming, especially since he has been suspended from the team since early in fall practice.
Saunders a senior tight end at Carolina has caught 60 passes for 718 yards and six touchdowns in his career, but his talent and ability was never really fully utilized. It would have been nice to have a 6-5 tight end that could catch in USC offense this season but so far the team has played well without him.
If we learned anything from Dez Bryants issues with the NCAA last season, is that even if a player does make a mistake, he still has a chance to get drafted in the NFL. Saunders most likely will get drafted. We wish Weslye the best in his future endeavors.
I think it was a smart move on Carolina’s part to go ahead and let Saunders go before he caused problems in the locker room or with the younger players.
If he would lie to Coach Spurrier, then he would lie to anybody. There is no place for that on this team, and with that we can now wash our hands free of the problems that Saunders caused while he was here. Let’s now wait and see what the NCAA investigation turns up?
Now we move on to the Furman game.
