The big story from the NCAA tournament on Friday was Florida Gulf Coast upsetting Georgetown. The rest of the world is just getting introduced to the Eagles, but I was introduced to them last year in Macon, Georgia, as they played a game against the Mercer Bears. Here I am at the game:
What did I say last time about these future giant killers?
– “FGCU played like they knew what they were doing”
– “In this contest, it seemed like the big problem was the Eagles and their ball handling ability. They seemed to be better on defense when they were able to get back and get set.”
– “Still, the Eagles clearly weren’t comfortable with how they were playing, changing their defensive look regularly, and not really getting consistent stops until they upped the pressure on the ball, but that came far too late.” (Perhaps this was game was a trigger for the Eagles going forward. They looked very aggressive Friday night)
I guess I wasn’t exactly glowing in my praise for the Eagles, and I can’t seem to dig up the old tweets that I had on the game. But still, the Eagles definitely advanced from what I saw that night way back in January of 2012, while still preserving much of the same roster (I remembered Eddie Murray!)
