This week, we have pumped your veins with Ohio State Basketball information and have gotten you ready for the Big Ten. I think it’s safe to say that there are a few of us here that are ready for tip-off. This afternoon, we continue getting you ready with some Silver Bullet Points related to the college basketball season. From Ohio State, to the Big Ten, to around the country, we take a look at what’s going on throughout the College Basketball landscape.
Don’t worry, this is still a Ohio State Football blog. It’s just the bye week, and Eric and I are over excited for basketball as many Buckeye fans are. Let’s get right into it.
In case you missed it, Mark Titus took his talents to Grantland this week to talk about the Ohio State Buckeyes. Titus put together a great piece on why the Buckeyes will win the National Championship this year. Dont worry Ohio State fans, he blamed himself if anything goes south. Titus touches on how the Buckeyes will move on without Jon Diebler and David Lighty and how this team is even better than last season. Though that is very hard to believe, it is something us basketball writers at tBBC definitely agree with.
Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy was fortunate enough to swing by Ohio State practice earlier this week, and has a great article on the progression of sophomore Deshaun Thomas, who has become known as “The Buckeye Ball Hog.” DeCourcy touches on the great shooting touch that Thomas has, and how he the coaching staff is identifying his role in practice before the start of the season. Without a doubt, he is a major part of next season, and he has the talent to break out as a star. Now… if the coaching staff can just get him to pass the basketball…
Brandon Castel of The O-Zone has been busy on the Buckeye basketball front. This great piece touches on William Buford’s nightmare against Kentucky and how he has used it this off-season as motivation. Castel also got Buckeye Nation up to date on some great nuggets from OSU Media Day and also shared some thoughts on the big men for Ohio State this season.
Bob Baptist of the Dispatch, who we had on our preview podcast earlier this week, wrote a great piece on replacing David Lighty this season. There are some great quotes from guards who feel they could fill the void and what they are doing to get time on the court. Replacing Lighty after five years is really going to be tough, but to have a competition like this for playing time is really encouraging.
INSERT SHAMELESS PLUG: I talked with Busting Brackets about the Ohio State Buckeyes earlier this week. I shared my opinion on what is expected from this team, the evolution of Jared Sullinger, The new players that could step up, and who I believe will be the unsung hero this year. Check it out, a great read.
The gang at CBS Sports in podcast form talk about the top 100 players and top 25 selections heading into the season. A good listen to start the year, with a lot of Big Ten love. Jeff Goodman talks about his trip to Ohio State, his love for Aaron Craft, Indiana’s chances, and his MAJOR love for Robbie Hummel.
There has been a lot of questions about Michigan State big man Derrick Nix, because let’s face it. He is downright strange. He called out his teammates last season for not giving it his all, yet he checked in at nearly 300 pounds. This year he is down to 267 and looks stronger and meaner than every before. With Delvon Roe now moving on from the program, Nix has a chance to step up and play a big role on this team. Check out the before and after in this article. It’s pretty crazy.
