Schilling says Dykstra called his ’93 World Series Game 6 homer

In Game 6 of the 1993 World Series, the Phillies entered the top of the seventh inning trailing the defending World Series champion Toronto Blue Jays 5-1. What looked to be a rough way to go out of the postseason quickly turned around in that seventh inning when the Phillies scored five runs. The fuel to the comeback came on a three-run home run by Lenny Dykstra off the arm of Blue Jays starter Dave Stewart.

Today in a radio interview with 97.5 The Fanatic’s Mike Missanelli, Curt Schilling said Dykstra called that shot. Of course he did.

Dykstra was a machine during that postseason run, especially in the World Series. Dykstra hit .348 during that six-game series, with four home runs (2 more in the NLCS), and eight RBI, seven walks and four stolen bases. If not for Barry Bonds in his first season with the 100-win San Francisco Giants, Dykstra likely would have been the MVP of the National League. Of course, to this day, Dykstra feels he should have won the award anyway.

As for that Game 6, my memory may be a little foggy but I’m pretty sure absolutely nothing worth recognizing happened after that magical seventh inning.

On another note, both Dykstra and Schilling are awful people. My childhood memories cannot be shattered so easily though.
