Notice anything, a pattern perhaps? Well, here it is: Despite far superior play, Conger is not (yet) winning the job. For awhile there it looked like Conger was becoming the regular catcher – he started four of five games. But then Mathis took over, and has started four of the last six. Apparently after Jeff had a closed door meeting with Mike Scioscia, concerned about the lack of playing time.

What gives, Scioscia? It is clear to anyone watching that Conger is not only a far better offensive player, but is close to or equal to Mathis defensively. This is starting to become absurd. Conger should be starting at least two-thirds of the games, with the rest split between Mathis and Wilson.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I’m just so dumbfounded about this. Other than the possible incriminating pictures, is there any valid reason that Scioscia is starting Mathis as much as he has? Anything? Discuss here
