Don’t be fooled, Ichiro can certainly hit the long ball too.
Ichiro 3-for-4 with two home runs including a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning to propel Seattle over Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox.
Lester suffered his fourth loss of the season (2-4) on 5 2/3 innings pitched, eight hits, five runs, three walks and five strikeouts.
Jason Bay nearly put the Red Sox ahead in the top of the ninth with two outs. Bay blasted a David Aardsma pitch to deep left field but the towering fly ball was caught at the warning track ending the game and stranding J.D. Drew, the go-ahead run, at first base.
Goat of the Game – Lester
Not indicated in the box score, Lester finagled his way out of some jams including stranding Ichiro at third base in the first inning. This start for Lester could have been much worse.
