Sean Kilpatrick Named Second Team All American by the NABC

In a joke and a half situation, Sean Kilpatrick was named a second team All American by the NABC. The NABC is the national association of basketball coaches.

The first teamers were Nik Stauskas of Michigan, Nick Johnson of Arizona, Shabazz Napier of Connecticut, Jabari Parker of Duke and the national player of the year soon to be winner Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Kilpatrick is joined on the second team by Russ Smith of Louisville, who should have probably also been on the first team with Kilpatrick, Cleanthony Early of Wichita State, CJ Fair of Syracuse and Andrew Wiggins of Kansas.

There was a third team as well. Julius Randle of UK, Marcus Smart of Oklahoma State, Fred VanVleet of WSU, TJ Warren of NC State and Florida’s Scottie Wilbekin round out that group.

No offense to Stauskas or Johnson or Napier, but give me a break. For as big a role as he had on his team, Kilpatrick should have been honored over one of those three. It’s picking nits when you are talking about great players, but leaving off Kilpatrick is a joke. This is why the coaches poll is the poll no one gives a shit about it. It is an injustice of a very minor degree because let’s not go crazy about honors that don’t really mean anything. We know how great Kilpatrick was. He’s been named a first team All American by other places. It’s just odd that coaches, or whoever votes for the coaches let’s be honest, would diss Kilpatrick so.

Things like this shouldn’t make people mad but things like this should make people wonder what the point of having coaches vote for anything is. They are wrong nearly all the time because they much bigger things to worry about. Like resume discrepancies or picking out which tie to wear. Those are the only two.

Second team honors are still awesome. Sean Kilpatrick was an All American. He was recognized as one, no matter how ridiculous. It’s better to argue what team he should have been named to than not seeing a Bearcat on the list at all. Hell of an end to a hell of a career.
