Led by the arm of Michael Roth, who pitched a complete game, the USC Gamecocks defeated the Auburn Tigers by the score of 7-3 in the SEC Tournament. Along with a stout pitching outing by Roth, the Gamecocks had timely hitting from Jake Williams and Evan Marzilli to fuel the win.
USC was slow out of the gate as they allowed the Tigers to jump out to a early lead but the Gamecocks fought back to score seven unanswered runs to win.
South Carolina’s win over Auburn marks the first time in the last five years that the No. 1 seed has beaten the No. 8 seed in the SEC tourney. It also ends the Gamecocks five game SEC tourney losing streak.
The Gamecocks (45-12) will send freshman Forrest Koumas to the mound on Thursday to face the winner of the Georgia and Vanderbilt game. The game is set to be televised on SportsSouth and is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. Before the game, make sure to read our primer and our take on USC’s enemies.
