SEC week two predictions

RusselWilson

Week one is in the books and now it’s on to week two as the SEC has a mix of cupcakes, conference games and interesting match-ups. Here’s my predictions for Saturday’s action….

Jacksonville State (1-0) at #6 Auburn (1-0)- Noon- SECN

Auburn beat Louisville last week but it wasn’t in impressive fashion. The good news for the Tigers is style points don’t count in Sept. It’s all about winning and moving on and that’s what the Tigers will do this week.

Prediction: Auburn 48 Jacksonville State 10

Fresno State (1-0) at #17 Ole Miss (1-0)- 3:30 PM- ESPN2

Line: Ole Miss by 31

Ole Miss absolutely destroyed it’s opponents last week. They will win again this week but it won’t be by as many points. I think 31 points may be a little rich but Ole Miss will certainly win by a bunch.

Prediction: Ole Miss 42 Fresno State 16

#10 Georgia (1-0) at Vandy (0-1)- 3:30 PM- CBS

Line: Georgia by 21

In 2013, Vanderbilt beat Georgia. But this Vanderbilt team isn’t 2013 Vanderbilt. This Georgia team isn’t 2013 Georgia. Overall, Georgia has won 18 of the last 20 in this series. Vandy may hang in there early but Georgia will blow doors in this one.

Prediction: Georgia 45 Vanderbilt 7

Middle Tennessee (1-0) at #2 Alabama (1-0)- 4 PM- SECN

Line: Bama by 34.5

Middle Tennessee is a capable football team but they aren’t beating Bama.

Prediction: Bama 51 Middle Tennessee 13

Toledo (0-0) at #18 Arkansas (1-0)- 4 PM- SECN+

Line: Arkansas by 21.5

Toledo is one of the best teams in the MAC, which is an underrated conference. That being said, Arky will be able to run the ball down their throat. Toledo will hang around early but will be bullied late.

Prediction: Arkansas 45 Toledo 21

#9 Oklahoma at #23 Tennessee (1-0)- 6 PM- ESPN

Line: Oklahoma by 1

This is the biggest game of Butch Jones tenure at Tennessee. Based on the Vols defensive play against Bowling Green, this could be a MAC style shootout. I think Tennessee plays OU very tough in this game but ultimately I think OU goes home with a win.

Prediction: Oklahoma 35 Tennessee 27

Ball State (1-0) at #16 Texas A&M (1-0)- 7 PM- ESPNU

Line: Aggies by 30.5

Look for the Aggies to cover.

Prediction: Texas A&M 52 Ball State 14

#21 Missouri (1-0) at Arkansas State (0-1)- 7 PM- ESPN3

Line: Mizzou by 10.5

Arkansas State lost to USC in their opener by 49. 49! I think Mizzou can handle the Red Wolves by at least 11.

Prediction: Missouri 31 Arkansas State 17

ECU (1-0) at Florida (1-0)- 7 PM- ESPN2

Line: Florida by 21

ECU lost a lot from last years team and just squeeked by Towson last week by eight. Florida rolled over their opponent. 21 points seems a bit much but the Gators rolled over the point spread last week so let’s give them a shot this week.

Prediction: Florida 42 ECU 17

Kentucky (1-0) at South Carolina (1-0)- 7:30 PM- SECN

Line: South Carolina by 7

It would not surprise me one bit to see Kentucky win this game. I think this will be a hard fought battle that will be decided by seven or less points. In cases like this, I generally go with the home team. I’ll take South Carolina here but it would be a hell of a statement game for Kentucky if they could pull it off.

Prediction: South Carolina 27 Kentucky 24

#14 LSU (0-0) at #25 Mississippi State (1-0)- 9:15 PM- ESPN

Line: LSU by 4

LSU’s opener was cancelled and I think that will play a big role in this game. LSU needed that time to get synced up on offense. Advantage Clanga. I’ll take Mississippi State at home in this one.

Prediction: Mississippi State 26 LSU 24
