From UConn:
October 22, 2015 – The University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey team will receive extensive coverage this season on the UConn IMG Audio Network with the debut of the “UConn Hockey Radio Show” with head coach Mike Cavanaugh and game coverage of 12 Husky contests.
The show and games will be heard on WTIC NewsTalk 1080 — the flagship station of the UConn IMG Audio Network, which also is the home of UConn football and men’s and women’s basketball. Many of the hockey games will also be available on TuneIn.
“I am very excited about the radio coverage our program will receive on the UConn IMG Audio Network and WTIC NewsTalk 1080,” said Cavanaugh, who is in his third season in charge of the Husky program. The Huskies are in the second year as a member of Hockey East, the most competitive hockey conference in the country.
“This commitment is another example of how the interest in our program has grown in a short amount of time. Very few college hockey teams have their games on a 50,000-watt radio station, which makes these broadcasts very unique. WTIC has a long tradition of covering UConn basketball and football, and it is a tremendous honor for hockey to join that group.”
The host of the “UConn Hockey Radio Show” and primary play-by-play announcer of the games will be Rich Coppola, who has been the sports director at Fox61 since 1989. Coppola is an eight-time winner of the Connecticut Sportscaster of the Year Award – given by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Coppola will be joined on many of the game broadcasts by Joe D’Ambrosio, the voice of UConn men’s basketball and football on the UConn IMG Audio Network, and Bob Joyce, the voice of Husky women’s basketball on the network.
The game broadcast schedule will be: Tuesday, October 27, vs. Boston University; Saturday, October 31, vs. Notre Dame; Friday, November 6, vs. UMass; Tuesday, November 10, vs. Army; Tuesday, November 24 vs. Boston College; Saturday, December 6, at UMass-Lowell; February, January 22, vs. Vermont; Saturday, January 23, at Boston College; Tuesday, January 26, vs. Sacred Heart; Tuesday, February 2, vs. Brown; Tuesday, February 19, vs. Northeastern; and Friday, February 26, vs. New Hampshire.
