Seminoles Not Awarded National Seed, Open NCAA Tourney vs. Mercer

Despite a dominating effort in the ACC Tournament, Florida State was not awarded a national seed when the NCAA Tournament brackets were unveiled on Monday. The Seminoles will however, host a regional as they begin the tournament.

Florida State enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 41-19. The Seminoles, who entered the ACC Tournament on a 5-game skid, breezed through the conference tourney to earn an automatic bid into the field of 64. FSU went 4-0 in Durham and captured its sixth ACC crown on Sunday with a 6-2 win over N.C. State.

Florida State also defeated Clemson, North Carolina and Louisville, who earned the No. 3 national seed, in the ACC Tournament. FSU outscored opponents 23-7 over the four games.

Florida State will begin the Tallahassee Regional on Friday against Mercer. The Bears are the fourth seed in the regional. Joining the Seminoles and Bears in Tallahassee will be second-seeded College of Charleston and third-seeded Auburn.

The Tallahassee Regional will be double-elimination format. The winner of the regional will move on to face the winner of the Gainesville Regional in a best-of-three Super Regional.
