Florida State tied a school-record with 15 blocked shots Saturday in a 75-62 win over South Florida in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida.
Devon Bookert led the Seminoles with a career-high 22 points in the victory while sophomore forward Jarquez Smith tied a career-best with 16 points to go along with a game-high 6 blocked shots. On 6-for-7 shooting, Kiel Turpin added 13 points and a pair of blocks.
Florida State led 34-28 at the break, but started the second half strong. After South Florida closed to within two at 44-42, the Seminoles used a 10-1 run to take control of the contest.
Redshirt freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes scored just 7 points, but led FSU with 9 assists and 6 rebounds.
South Florida’s Corey Allen Jr. led all scorers with 31 points in addition to a game-high 4 steals. Anthony Collins was the only other Bull in double-figures scoring with 13.
At 6-5, Florida State is now over .500 for the first time since winning the season-opener. The Seminoles return home to take on Stetson on Monday afternoon. USF (5-6) will host Southeast Louisiana on Tuesday.
