Four Penn State players are heading to the Senior Bowl, considered the top all-star game for college football’s senior players heading to the NFL. We already knew about Johnnie Troutman, but today it was confirmed that Devon Still and D’Anton Lynn (both expecte to be invited) and Jack Crawford (a likely invitee as well) will join him in Mobile, Alabama later this month.

From the Senior Bowl press release;

The North roster for this year’s Senior Bowl will have a strong Penn State presence.  Four members off of the Nittany Lions 2011 squad have officially accepted invitations to the 2012 game, it was announced today.  Defensive linemen Devon Still and Jack Crawford will join defensive back D’Anton Lynn and offensive lineman Johnnie Troutman in the senior showcase event.  The 63rd Senior Bowl is scheduled for 3pm (CT) on January 28th in Mobile’s Ladd-Peebles Stadium.  The game and all practices will be televised by NFL Network.

“This is the most Penn State players we’ve had in our game in nine years and all are very deserving of this opportunity,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said.  “We feel like we identified four strong prospects and are looking forward to watching them compete in front of the National Football League here at the Senior Bowl.”

Penn State’s press release adds;

The quartet of Nittany Lions playing in the Senior Bowl is Penn State highest number of participants in the contest since five in the 2003 Senior Bowl. Three of the five were NFL first round draft choices that spring (Michael Haynes, Bryant Johnson and Larry Johnson).

Also…

Penn State has had at least one alumnus on a Super Bowl team in 40 of 45 title games, including during the 2010 season whenAndrew Quarless won an NFL title in his rookie season with the Green Bay Packers. Thirty-three former Nittany Lions have earned a total of 49 Super Bowl rings.

We are hoping to have Optimum Scouting weigh in sometime next week about these players and what they are looking for or think of them heading in to the Senior Bowl.
