Don’t worry, Mika Zibanejad is going to be at the Ottawa Senators training camp come September, to try and grab a spot. Another Swedish forward prospect, Marcus Sörensen, though, is not.
Sörensen spent last year with Borås of the SEL-2, being loaned from Anders Forsberg’s Skellefteå of the SEL. Sörensen signed a two-year deal with Skellefteå last summer, but the two parties decided that the second year of the contract was not necessary.
Sörensen has now signed with newly relegated Djurgården, a team Sens fans know best as the team developing the likes of Mika Zibanejad and Fredrik Claesson. The latter’s future with the team is still uncertain, as his contract expired after the season. Sörensen will be presented later this week as Djurgården begin their off-season training.
Senators have to decide whether or not to sign Sörensen, taken in the 2010 NHL entry draft, the coming months. If they do not, they will lose his NHL rights.
