Prior to this afternoon’s Chicago Blackhawks versus Columbus Blue Jackets game, the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline (@aportzline) tweeted that the Ottawa Senators had a scout in attendance.
Of course there are a number of angles that one can look at:
- The Blue Jackets will inevitably retool and Ottawa has been linked to a number of Blue Jackets forwards before. Names like Derick Brassard, Vinny Prospal or possibly even Antoine Vermette come to mind.
- The Blackhawks are looking for some depth on the blue line. Perhaps one of Ottawa’s veteran guys — Carkner, Kuba, Gonchar — could interest them.
- Or if you’re like Joe Yerdon (@JoeYerdonPHT), you could believe that teams like Dallas or Ottawa are interested in RJ Umberger. Barf. As if giving up the prospects and draft picks to make that deal happen isn’t bad enough. Imagine holding onto Umberger through 2016/17 while he’s carrying an annual average value of $4.6M.
Here is a look at both team’s rosters on the day. Let me know which players you’d be inclined to kick the tires on in the comment thread.
