MONDAY, 7/29: Jered Weaver vs. Matt Garza: It's so damn hot!
But seriously… we can already see it coming. Weaver has never been able to pitch in the Texas heat and I'm pretty sure that isn't just narrative. I am anxious though to see if the Halos can ruin Garza for the Rangers much like they ruined Dempster for them.
TUESDAY, 7/30: C.J. Wilson vs. Derek Holland: WE CAN HAZ ALL THE BOOZ?
But seriously… we get it, Texas. You don't like C.J. and you think he's a douche. We also get that you don't like Hamilton, think he's a cancer and don't appreciate his "baseball town" comments.
WEDNESDAY, 7/31: Jerome Williams vs. Perez: Is human sacrifice legal in Texas?
But seriously… this could get REALLY ugly. Jerome Williams has been just awful of late and is only still in the rotation because the Angels have no other options and need someone to keep the spot warm until Jason Vargas is ready to return. Jerome is just out there as a sacrificial lamb.
FALSE HOPE INDEX
The index reading for this series is: For Sale
They are for sale, just about every single player. I don't believe for a second that they are only going to move Downs. There is a pretty good chance that there will be a game in this series where Shuck, Cowgill, Hawpe and Field are all in the starting lineup. Gird your loins, people.
GOOD NEWS
The deadline has give us something to look forward to and hold our interest during a series where they Angels are most likely going to get to get their brains bashed in.
BAD NEWS
They might trade someone you want them to keep. Aybar, Kendrick, Trumbo and Bourjos are all candidates to have a new address by the end of this series. Everyone has their preference as to who should stay and who should go.
AMBIVALENT NEWS
This whole deadline business has made a normally enjoyable rivalry series the secondary story. It is too early to start playing the role of spoiler and after their lackluster effort in Oakland over the weekend, it feels very much like they are lambs being led to a slaughter in this series instead of heading in there with their claws out ready to draw some blood from their bitter rivals.
CLOSING STATEMENT
I really can't wait for ESPN to completely oversell Monday's game as a meaningful series between division rivals. The Angels are clearly out of it and no longer even pretending to be in the race, but I bet ESPN will keep the charade going to make this dog of a series seem like it is actually compelling.
