Series Preview: Angels vs. Twins vs. Annoyed

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim v Minnesota Twins

I’m already annoyed at this series. I’m annoyed that the Twins are good and I honestly have no idea how they are good. No team that has prominently featured Mike Pelfrey, Tommy Milone and Ricky Nolasco in their rotaiton should be any good. I’m annoyed that Torii Hunter is on the Twins, which is going to lead to a whole new round of Angels fans on Twitter bemoaning the Halos letting Torii walk in favor of signing Josh Hamilton. I’m annoyed that Byron Buxton is on the DL and that Miguel Sano might miss all or part of this series due to injury as I really wanted to see them both play.

Game 1: Matt Shoemaker vs. Kyle Gibson
This is probably Matt Shoemaker’s last stand… again. Jered Weaver is going to be back at the end of the week (and this time, he means it) and Scioscia made it clear that Heaney isn’t going anywhere. That means Shoe is going to get the boot to either the bullpen or minors. His only real hope of survival is to put up a terrific performance and hope that the Halos find a trade where they can flip C.J. Wilson for a quality bat. That seems highly unlikely though. Sorry, Matt, it looks like you’ve finally fully reverted back to a pumpkin.

Game 2: C.J. Wilson vs. Mike Pelfrey
Watching C.J. Wilson face MIke Pelfrey might be one of the least aesthetically appealing match-ups of the month. I’m pretty sure the Fangraphs NERD score for this game will be in the negatives. I’m already bored by this game.

Game 3: Garrett Richards vs. Ervin Santana
Garrett Richards is coming off his best start probably ever, so things are looking up for the Angels’ would-be ace. With his inconsistency this season, I think we’d all feel a lot better if he was able to step in here and have a strong encore performance. He’ll get to do that against former Angel and former PED user, Ervin Santana. Will it be Bullet Time once again or will Ervin get to #SmellBaseball?
