The Brewers sit in 3rd place in the NL Central, a game back of the Cardinals for second place, as well as for the NL Wild Card (and tied in the loss column); the Crew needs to take at least 3 of 4 from the Redbirds in St. Louis to gain ground. Milwaukee is 5-4 vs. the Cardinals so far this year, after going 7-8 against the Cardinals last season.
Pitching Probables:
Monday, July 21, 6:05 p.m. CT: RHP Seth McClung (5-5, 4.16) vs. RHP Joel Pineiro (3-4, 4.52)
Tuesday, July 22, 7:15 p.m. CT: RHP Jeff Suppan (5-6, 4.71) vs. RHP Kyle Lohse (12-2, 3.35)
Wednesday, July 23, 7:15 p.m CT: LHP C.C. Sabathia (9-8, 3.51) vs. RHP Braden Looper (9-7, 4.60)
Thursday, July 24, 7:15 p.m. CT: RHP Ben Sheets (10-3, 2.88) vs. RHP Todd Wellenmeyer (8-4, 4.22)
Things to look for:
1. Will newest Brewer Ray Durham–a switch-hitter that would bat left-handed–start at second base against some of the Cards’ starters, all righties, filling in for the right-handed hitting Rickie Weeks? Durham is .318/.396/.446/.842 versus righties in ’08, and .333/.368/.556/.924 with 5 runs in 18 AB’s against the Cardinals this year.
2. Can Sheets, who was 1-6, 4.08, against the Redbirds from ’05’-’07 improve upon his 3 ER’s over 7 IP’s earlier this year against the Cards in his second start against them this year?
3. Can Sabathia–who the Cardinals haven’t seen yet this year–continue to dominate his NL opponents?
