Los Angeles Angels of AWESOMENESS
- Two steps forward for Mike Napoli who collected three base hits this series, all of them for extra bases, including his annual triple.
- Too bad Scott Kazmir can’t pitch against the Tigers every time out. He’s had two good starts this year, both against Detroit. This weekend was real progress for him for sure since he was actually able to go a full six innings for the first time. He needs to lose those four walks, but at least he is starting to come around hopefully.
- I can’t decide if this is good or bad, but Erick Aybar has a seven-game hitting streak now and has reached base safely in all but two games this year, yet for some reason he still has just a .253 average and .324 OPB.
Los Angeles Angels of FAIL
- Boy did I pick a great weekend to go on vacation with no TV or internet. Watching the Angels get embarrassed like this would have been a real bummer and ruined an otherwise pleasant weekend.
- I think the Angels might need to put in a call to Dave Duncan. Nobody with a sinker like Joel Pineiro’s should ever allow three home runs in a game, especially in a huge park like Comerica. Already Joel has allowed four homers this year after permitting just eleven last year.
- One step back for Mike Napoli who ruined an otherwise positive weekend for himself by fanning three times in three at-bats on Sunday. To think, he was so close to getting that average over .200. Both him and Brandon Wood just can’t quite get over that hump.
- Dammit, Jered Weaver is human. At least it was really only for just one inning though. Even then he wasn’t that bad. He only allowed one extra-base hit and one walk while striking out six in 4.2 innings and would’ve allowed even fewer runs if Mike Scioscia would just learn his lesson about bringing in Jason Bulger with runners already on base.
- Expect some extra fielding practice for the Angels when they land in Boston. Six errors for the series is just unacceptable even if they ultimately allowed just two unearned runs, especially when one of those runs ended up proving to be a difference maker in Saturday’s game.

Oh, Scot, why must you suck so very, very much?
I really shouldn’t blame Scot, after all, it isn’t his fault that Mike Scioscia keeps bringing him into games. Nonetheless, Shields continues to be absolutely terrible as was exemplified by his game-losing tater to Johnny Damon. He just has no business pitching in a close game and probably not even a non-close one either since he wasn’t exactly sharp when he came in to mop things up on Sunday. Mike Scioscia gets honorable mention here for using Shields instead of Fuentes on Saturday, once again proving that there is no point in saving your closer for a save situation when it means pitching a lesser pitcher in a tied game and risking never getting to use that closer.
