Boy, was this series ever a Rollercoaster ride. At first I was all like, “Dudes. They beat Corey Kluber. The Angels are totally back.” Then I was all like, “Three hits in 12 innings? We suck again.” Then I was all like, “WOOOOOOOOOOO! WALK OFF!” It was a crazy series. I’m still detoxing.

Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves though. The Indians are dead last in the AL Central. Their offense consists of Jason Kipnis, Michael Brantley and a bunch of guys holding bats wrong. The Angels just happened to run into their three best pitchers in this series, and considering their offensive woes of late, are lucky to have gotten away with a series win. But, sometimes it pays to be more lucky than good. Or, maybe it just pays to have Erick Aybar do mystical things to the teams collection of bats.
Erick Aybar needs to be an Angel forever.
[mlbvideo id=”335005683″ width=”400″ height=”224″ /]He can be the most maddening player on the roster sometimes, but damnit if he isn’t consistent…and entertaining. And go figure he plays a key role in the Angels ninth inning rally yesterday by, of all things, drawing a walk. My official reaction to this heresy as it happened yesterday.
It was bananas. Bananas, I tell you.
Cam Bedrosian has no business being on the big league roster. None.
I’ll admit that when Cam Bedrosian was posting video game strikeout numbers in the minor leagues, I got a little bit excited. I mean, why shouldn’t we have been excited? He struck out nearly 16 batters per nine innings in AA over 30 games last season. That’s Craig Kimbrel territory. Across 34 big league games, that K/9 rate is at 8.27 with an ERA of 5.59. He has also walked 12.5% of all of the hitters he has faced. It was almost as if Mike Scioscia was throwing in the towel the moment he brought in Cam to take Jose Alvarez‘s place. Admit it, you knew it too.
The Angels have today off while the Baltimore Orioles travel to southern California for a weekend series. Hopefully Erick Aybar’s mysticism doesn’t wear off in that time. Winning one series is good, picking up two games on the Astros is also good, but getting back to where the Angels were a few weeks ago would just be the best.
