On January 9th, Seth Curry returned to the Santa Cruz Warriors after a short stint with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Curry was called up by the Grizzlies on Christmas Eve, but he only made one appearance with them in a game against the Detroit Pistons. He was waived after the game.
Curry made his return to the Warriors in their second and final game of the annual D-League showcase in Reno, Nevada.
In this game, Curry burst back onto the D-League scene and finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and three steals on 12-for-22 shooting.
Behind Curry’s strong performance, the Warriors beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 127-115.
Curry looked confident in his first game back with the Warriors, and he showed how much he has improved as a point guard. In fact, Curry told NBA.com that he has focused on improving his point guard skills since he first joined the Warriors.
“That’s what I’ve tried to show from the beginning of this D-League season, that I can play the point and run a team well and get people involved and score in different ways,” Curry said. “I think I’ve been able to do that so far, and I’m trying to keep that going.”
He’s a Curry, so we know he can shoot. Curry told NBA.com that he’s using his time in Santa Cruz to work on all elements of his game though.
“Just continue to get better, handling the ball, and running my team as a leader on the court,” Curry said. “That’s just the biggest thing, just getting more reps at the point guard position and the better I’ll get.”
Curry has a great blueprint for how to become a point guard at the NBA level. His older brother, Stephen Curry, also came out of college having to prove himself as a point guard. Seth told NBA.com that he understands what he has to do to make in the NBA.
“Guys who come out of college as scorers have to transition a little bit to running the team at the NBA level, and that’s what I’m trying to do,” Curry said. “I’ve been able to watch Steph and how he’s transitioned his game into one of the best point guards in the league, so it’s something I’m trying to work on.”
In his second game back with the Warriors on January 10th, Curry had 22 points, four rebounds, and seven assists in the Warriors’ 110-103 win over the Maine Red Claws.
Although Curry has had much success at the D-League level, he strives to play for an NBA team, whether it’s the Golden State Warriors or another team. He’s confident, he’s working hard, and he’s showing that he can play point guard.
Curry is ready to play in the NBA. It’s unclear if the Warriors will call him up or if he’ll have to find playing time on another NBA team.
Regardless, Curry can’t wait to prove himself in the NBA.
